The Fiji MetService named Tropical Cyclone Fili.Tropical cyclone Fili developed in the Southwest Pacific Ocean on April 5 2022 north of New Caledonia. Fili moved towards the southeast as a category 1 cyclone before developing further to a category 2 tropical cyclone on April 6 2022. The category 2 cyclone continued moving towards the southeast before downgrading to a tropical low pressure system south of Noumea on April 8 2022.
Ex-Cyclone Fili is likely to track directly over – or very close to – the North Island of New Zealand midway through this coming week, bringing with it severe wind and rain risks and dangerous marine conditions as the storm re-energises into a bigger low pressure system.
