Cyclone formation alert


Computer models are forecasting that two cyclones may develop in the Australian region over the next couple of days.

Tropical Low 21U

Tropical low (21U) slowly developing to the north of the Pilbara, will remain well off the WA coast.

Tropical low (21U) is expected to continue moving generally westwards over the weekend, while remaining well to the north of the Pilbara coast.

The risk of 21U developing into a tropical cyclone increases to High from Monday.

21U does not pose a direct threat to Western Australian mainland or island communities.

During next week, 21U is expected to curve towards the south and the southeast, while remaining well off the Western Australian coast before weakening from mid week.

Tropical Low 22U

Tropical Low 22U likely to develop into a tropical cyclone tomorrow in the northern Coral Sea.

Tropical Low 22U is developing well off the north Queensland coast and moving slowly east.

It is expected to develop into a tropical cyclone tomorrow.

From mid next week, 22U is forecast to move generally southwards.

While there is large uncertainty late next week in the forecast track, there is a chance of 22U moving towards the Queensland coast.
